Finally Some News!

Mommy's been so busy.  I'm trying to migrate all the pages from our old webs at homestead over to the segurafamily.com domain.  Needless to say it's a slow process!

I worked on three of Sean's pages tonight.  Remember, they are from our old web so they will seem like a blast from the past.

Sean's Baby Portraits

Sean's Cyber Baby Journal

Sean's Baptism

Everyone is doing great.  Last week all the kids except Spencer were on Easter vacation.  Grandma and Grandpa took great care of them and it was pretty hard getting them back to school.

I tried to stay up all last night and watch the Pope's funeral.  I fell asleep so I watched the rest of it today.  Absolutely amazing.  I was entranced watching the entire mass and especially moved by the prayer by the Eastern Churches.  I still don't know who all those people were but that was truly amazing.  It made things more real because I was actually there at one point in my life.  I could just picture being there, and I wish that I was.

There are two birthday parties this weekend.  One is for Ariana (Humberto, Spencer's godfather's daughter's) fourth birthday.  On Sunday is a school mass at St. Therese and Stephanie will attend an ice skating birthday party for her school friend Jenna.

Lucky Kids and the shopping spree

This weekend was pretty quiet.  On Saturday I asked Steve to take Sean and Stephanie to see the new movie Robots.  Spencer was not invited because the last time we went to the movies to see the Polar Express he went nuts in the theater and ran around the whole thing.  I didn't think he could handle all of them.  Stephanie, Sean and Steve loved the movie.  I was bummed because Steve told me I missed the new trailer for Star Wars Episode III!

I went to Star Wars.com to try to view it and it's only available to paying members of the site.  Matthew has been bugging me to join for a while but I haven't gotten around to it!

While Steve and the kids went to the movies Matthew, Spencer and I took one of our shopping trips to Walmart.  It's funny going there during the day.  Usually Matthew and I go at night to the 24 hour Walmart.  I had to stock up on a bunch of stuff.  New rugs for the Pooh Bear bathroom upstairs and for the entry way and the kitchen, Matthew needed a new trash can for his room.  With diapers, desitin, training pants and of course a Barbie, it all added up.

Today, Sunday, was pretty cold.  Stephanie accompanied me to see "Sandy" my nails lady early in the morning.  We stayed home the rest of the day.

Our gardener skipped out on us so I'm going to have to find a new one.  Our front yard is becoming a jungle!

No More Crying

Spencer has been doing great in preschool.  I receive a little report every day about his activities, his nap time, how much he ate and what he played.

The only problem was that since his third day of pre-school, he would cry every morning I left him.  It was so painful.  He would start saying, "No na-ni."  "No!"  I felt so bad!

Thankfully, yesterday (Thursday) and today were the first two days he did not cry.  Actually this morning he sat down at the table where the kids usually eat breakfast and started to drink a juice box I left with him.  I was starting to slip out and he very excitedly exclaimed, "Bye na-ni!"  Wow, that surprised me and made me feel so good.

I hope Monday he doesn't forget that he likes preschool!

The Cycle of Haircuts

I'm not sure how it happened but it just did!  All of the kids end up needing a haircut at the same time.  One time Steve and I got brave and all took the kids to Supercuts for haircuts.  Usually that does not happen.  I usually take Spencer or Steve takes Spencer.  He is the most difficult one for haircuts.

Spencer absolutely hates having his haircut.   He dislikes haircuts so much that it is often very difficult to have his haircut properly.  He squirms and cries.  Either I have to sit in the chair or put him on my lap.  It's a big ordeal.  So, last week when I was off on Friday I took Spencer for his haircut (the 25th).  We got a really sweet girl at the Supercuts in Alhambra named Jennifer.  She showed me a picture of her daughter who was in a hair styles magazine.

Next to have haircuts were Matthew and Sean on the 26th of February.  That was super easy.  In fact, Stephanie, Spencer and I went to the grocery store while Sean and Matthew went to Supercuts.  They actually had the same girl Jennifer.  She is so patient and sweet.  My dad got kind of mad because he wanted to know who left Sean's hair sticking up in the back!  I thought it looked o.k., but he's right.  I've had to gel it down a little in the back since it's sticking up!  Matthew also had a great cut.  He doesn't shave his hair or anything.  Just a regular hair cut.

I got my hair cut on Thursday (3/3).  I go to a local place in Alhambra.  I found a great stylist after a few hits and misses.  He is in the same salon as the lady I go with to get my nails done, her name is Sandy, lol.

The last one to get her hair cut was Stephanie!  Poor thing. I told her I was going to take her on Friday, but I had to attend a funeral on Friday afternoon.  My friend Susan's sister passed away at a very young age.  I had never met Irene but I almost felt like I knew her from everything Susan told me about her and her daughters.  The eulogies were incredible.  I really felt like I knew her after the funeral.  I've been thinking about that all weekend.  Anyhow, Stephanie just needed a bang trim.  Her hair is so beautiful and long, and we're letting it grow as long as possible!

I won't need another haircut for several months, but I'm sure the cycle of haircuts for the kids will begin again soon.  I wonder if I'll get brave and take them all the same day again?!?

Spencer's first day of preschool is a success!

Spencer's first day of school went off without a hitch.  Click here to see all of the pictures. We all got up early and Steve took Matthew over to his carpool and went to work.  Sean, Spencer and Stephanie were all so excited about Spencer's first day of school that they all got up early and got dressed right away.  Actually, Spencer was the first one dressed.  As soon as he was dressed, he ran to Stephanie's room to play on the computer while the other kids were getting dressed.  He is a computer fanatic.  He plays on hotwheels.com and noggin.com.  It's amazing.  He turns on the computer, brings up the browser and goes to the bookmarked web pages.  He gets all excited and says, "I did it, I did it!" when he wins a game.

All the kids ate breakfast and brushed their teeth.  Then I wanted to take some pictures and Spencer absolutely refused.  This is his usual though.  He hates having his picture taken.  Anyhow, we made it out of the house around 8:10 and dropped Stephanie off at school first.  Next I dropped off Sean.  He goes to a different preschool than Spencer so Spencer was a little mad that he didn't get to stay.  I had to whisk him off and tell him that we still had to go to his preschool.  It was just a few minutes drive away and when we arrived Spencer was very excited.

We arrived around 8:30 a.m.  We walked in the classroom and his teachers right away said, "Spencer!"  Some children were still eating breakfast and others were playing with toys.  Since Sean previously went to this preschool they all started commenting how much Spencer and Sean resembled each other.  They kissed Spencer and hugged him and right away he was relaxed.  He didn't cry or run away.  He started playing right away.  He went to the kitchen area first and played with blocks there for several minutes.  He played with another boy for a few minutes then tried to play with some girls.  They said, "get away!"  Spencer was not deterred, he played with them anyway.  He was really relaxed and allowed me to take several pictures of him.  I was so happy because he didn't let me take any before we left.

Around 9:00, the children go outside for free-play.  I stayed there in the playground (keeping my distance) and let Spencer enjoy himself and play.  He was so happy.  I was happy for him too.  He needed to be with other children and interact and have fun all day.  We are so grateful to grandma and grandpa for taking care of the kids all day long for such a long time.  Now they get a break.  They won't have to come to the house until the late afternoon when Stephanie gets out of school.  I will arrive home with the boys around 5:30 to 5:45.

I was so happy Spencer didn't cry, he had a great day, it was probably me who was more on the verge of crying.  LOL.

Preparing for Spencer's Big Day!

Welcome to the first entry in the Segura family blog.  Today mom prepared for Spencer's first day of preschool.  It's hard to believe, but our little Spencer will begin preschool tomorrow at the Alhambra True Light Christian Preschool.  Sean attended preschool there last year before he went to Montessori.  We all think Spencer is so small, but it's hard to believe he is actually going to be three years old in a month and a half.  It's incredible how fast they grow.
